Our Grading Scale
We take great care to sort and grade every ball according to our standards, applying consistent criteria across our inventory. However, golf ball grading involves subjective judgment, and final classification decisions rest solely with Basement Balls. We appreciate your understanding as we work to deliver quality products while maintaining fair and accurate grading practices.
5A Mint
5A Mint condition represents balls in near-perfect state, virtually indistinguishable from new. These balls show no visible wear, retain their original finish and markings, and have never been played or have seen minimal use. 5A Mint balls deliver maximum performance and aesthetic appeal, making them the premium choice for collectors or golfers who demand the highest standard.
4A Near Mint
4A Near Mint describes balls in excellent condition with only the slightest signs of use. These balls may show minor surface marks or faint wear that is barely noticeable, but the cover remains intact with no cuts or significant scuffs. 4A Near Mint balls offer outstanding value and performance, ideal for golfers seeking quality equipment without paying premium prices.
3A Good
3A Good condition balls show moderate wear consistent with regular play. These balls may display visible scuffs, minor discoloration, or light marking wear, but the cover remains sound with no deep damage. 3A Good balls are a practical choice for recreational golfers and practice rounds, delivering reliable performance at an affordable price point.
Practice/Shag
Practice/Shag balls are heavily used balls exclusively for driving ranges, practice sessions, and training drills—not for on-course play. These balls show significant wear including scuffs, discoloration, and cover damage, but remain suitable for practice purposes. Practice/Shag balls offer the most economical option for golfers who want to develop their swing and skills without the expense of higher-grade balls.
